5 Maverick Feathers From The Wings Of Icarus

It is always a true pleasure of mine to invite friends over to a party for some specific occasion or without any reason at all. Since…being together matters the most as well as everyone’ s feeling welcome and comfortable. When Pirate invited me to his soirée, along came also the challenge of hosting my own afterwards. Thank you for the invitation and for the bounteous, adventurous, full of exotic flavors&surprises blog of yours!

The dinner is a simple affair:
– Five guests and oneself.  While relatives are permitted, it will be more interesting if guests are public figures – dead or alive, speaking any language – or even fictional characters.
– In turn, tag five others to hold Virtual Parties of their own.

I must admit that the simplest part for me was the place and the way I would prefer music and food arrangements to be. Yes, though this way it means I somehow would have managed “to trick in” more than 5 famous guests there, it still wouldn’ t count since these 2 would be working. To help me to prepare food (and not the other way around) for dinner would be a chef Heston Blumenthal – I have always been amazed by his food philosophy and ideas. Then Sting –  to be in charge of music – beautiful, not obtrusive. And all that – in a nice garden on a summer evening.

The first guest would be 老子 – Lao Tzu (6th century BCE), one of the greatest philosophers of ancient China, scholar and the founder of Taoism. Teaching of Lao Tzu was directed to the “inner man” because according to him it is important to take care of the internal and not external.

I would invite also a Scottish novelist, poet and travel writer Robert Louis Stevenson (13 November 1850 – 3 December 1894) who gained the world fame with the novel “Treasure Island” in 1883. He traveled quite a bit, wrote more than that and ended up falling in love with an island of Samoa where purchased some land to settle down with family. R.L.Stevenson’ s another, less known “side” was being a composer – creator of 123 original compositions.

I would be happy to see in the party also Kahlil Gibran (January 6, 1883 – April 10, 1931), a Lebanese artist, poet and writer. His best – known work is “The Prophet”, a book of essays that has remained popular to this day. His writing combines the deepest impulses of the human heart and mind. K.Gibran’ s drawings and paintings Auguste Rodin characterized as stunning images of plasticity and harmony of color.

               

Another guest of mine would be Princess of Wales Diana (1 July 1961 – 31 August 1997). There have been (and still are) so many opinions about her personality and life but one can’ t be denied – she always appeared smiling and happy keeping everything that happened behind the closed door of family well – hidden. Princess Diana was also associated with numerous charities and supported the International Campaign to Ban Landmines.

And last but not least – a Mexican painter and graphic artist Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907- July 13, 1954). Her art has been perceived in many different ways but must admit there appears a certain amount of shamelessness in it. She started to paint during the months spent recovering after a traffic accident when she was eighteen. It is unlikely many would want to have F.Kahlo’ s paintings on the wall at home but her creativity and strength of mind are worth admiration.
