Carpe Diem Haiku *Kanjizai-ji (Temple 40)*

In March we start the second part of our Carpe Diem Haiku Shikoku Pilgrimage and the first temple on our path is Kanjizai-ji, located in Ehime Prefecture. The name “Ehime” comes from the Kojiki and means “beautiful maiden.” Centuries ago this area was dominated by fishermen and sailors who had an important role, defending Japan against pirates and Mongolian invasions.
