This week our inspiration on Carpe Diem Special is a haiku, written by a pre-Basho haiku poet Iio Sogi (1421-1502):
* * *
Now that they end
There is no flower that can compare
With cherry blossoms
* * *
Here’ s my attempt to stay close to the same mood and spirit:
* * *
first cherry blossoms
despite the bites of morning frost
still beautiful
* * *
left behind
in the frozen pond
white feather
* * *
Nicely done, Ese. 🙂

Wow, both are such lovely images but that last one leaves me sighing.

Me, too! There’s something like that about it… 🙂

I particularly like your second, maybe as I am thinking about 3 feet of snow heading my way…

Thank you, Jeff! Yes, can’t deny the second one is much closer to reality outside the window…no cherry blossoms, just pure ice.
Stay warm through the snow storm – spring is supposed to be not too far away!

Really beautiful mood. The second haiku is endless. One can go on and on contemplating what it says, and of course its texture is brilliant.

While I was “knitting” around the first one, the second came…somehow very naturally 🙂
