The Līgo Weekly 220w Challenge – words to bring the world together – SPAIN

It was one of those trips, you know – the ones where the main focus is on work and everything else is on the background. But the story will be about something different. About how a short trip turned into a long one, plans changed and life just took me by surprise.

Thinking back about the days spent in Valencia, I want to make just one stop there. The City of Arts and Sciences that has risen over the former riverbed of the river Turia. A beautiful park with the objects of modern architecture that made me feel like in some science fiction movie.

A part of “L’Umbracle” – a beautiful landscaped walk where one feels like in a garden and can enjoy also the outdoor art gallery of sculptures.

And then…reaching the Barcelona airport we just felt something was happening. In that moment we didn’ t know yet that the eruptions of the volcano Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland will change plans of many people. Especially the ones who had planned to fly – because of an ash cloud most of the European airspace was closed for 5 days. Long story short – after quite a few “what to do now?!” moments there’ s nothing else left than to calm down and to start enjoying. The mountains that inspire and have that therapeutical calming effect. And the people together with whom you can walk up the mountains. Literally!

I fell in love with this place – the Montserrat mountain not too far from Barcelona.

Santa Maria de Montserrat – an abby that has found its place on the mountain and fits so well like it has always meant to be that way.

Monestir de Montserrat – we kept walking up…

…and up…allowing ourselves to be surprised. By nature. And by life generally.

Like Kurt Vonnegut said: “History is merely a list of surprises. It can only prepare us to be surprised yet again.”

P.S: I returned back home – as you can imagine but that is another story for another time.
